Happy new year, and hope this email finds you well. 

My name is Jinghong Zhang, a 1st year PhD student majoring in Neurology in Medical School of Chinese PLA. I am now applying for a China Scholarship Council(CSC) program that supports Chinese PhD students to go abroad for further research as a government-sponsored visiting scholar. I am writing to enquire about the possibility for me to join your group and follow you as a visiting scholar for a period of 6 months / for 1 year.  

I visited Moscow and Saint Petersburg with my family in 2019 and was deeply impressed by your beautiful country and friendly people. The impressive research capacity and world-class education system in Russia gives me further motivation to apply for a chance to study there. 

After coming back from Russia, I started my graduate student life in Chinese PLA General Hospital. During the 3 years of specialized training in neurology, I not only studied clinical knowledge in hospital wards, published a case report to share a ________, but also did some research on ALS. I collected and analyzed the data of clinical indicators and the results of EMG test in order to advance the understanding of RNS results in ALS patients and instruct application.       

From the official website of the Research Center of Neurology, I have taken note of your outstanding achievements in neurodegenerative diseases. I really admire you and believe that I can expand my clinical knowledge and improve my research ability if I can get the chance to learn from you.  

According to the rule of the CSC program, students must acquire an official invitation letter before February, so if there’s any possibility for you to offer me this chance, I’d love to hear from you soon.

As a presenter for national ALS conference hosted by Chinese Medical Association, I took part in the meeting and was fascinated by your presentation on “ALS–Diagnostic Guidelines” and deeply impressed by your Chinese opening remarks.

I really admire your outstanding contributions to ALS research and wish to join your team. I believe that I can expand my clinical knowledge and improve research ability if I can get the chance to follow you. I am interested in whether there is any difference between ALS patients from China and Australia both in clinical symptoms and neurophysiology tests, which might shed some light on any impact from factors such as environment, diet, and lifestyle.
