Writing exercise

The week before last, I visited an exhibition which was called “Trembling Soul†in Shanghai. The creator of the exhibition is Chiharu Shiota, the famous installation artist of the world. She is good at using the thread to make her works. In the exhibition, she used threads to create in three-dimensional space and built a giant shape to give a strong impact to audiences. From Shiota’s point of view, among all kinds of colors, red is the color of blood and it can express the interpersonal relationship, and black is the color which can present vast universe, while white color symbolizes pure, so these three colors are the main colors of her work. In the exhibition, the most impressive works to me were “Unknown journey†and “Where will we goâ€. “Unknown Journey“ used more than 2000 red coils and every coil was around 133 meters, more than 100 people participated the installation and spent 16days to finish the work. The huge red thread installation let me feel the complex emotions of Shiota: uneasiness, anxiety, confusion, loneliness, dream, silence, fear and pray. “Where are we going†hung the boats which were wrapped by white threads, it took the audience on the journey of uncertainty also implied a new beginning. General speaking, Shiota‘s work used the simplest materials, but brought the most complexed mood and thought, there was no person existence in the works, but everywhere was human’s memory, so it was a great exhibition.

Generally speaking, Shiota‘s work used the simplest materials, but brought the most complex / complicated moods and thoughts. There was no people existing in the works, but everywhere was human’s memory. So in my opinion it was a great exhibition.
