Apart from visual, sound is another important element for a film or video. And for sound, we can divide into several parts including background music, sound effect and VO which are mostly be handled in studio during post production period. Today, let’s talk about voice dubbing. There are many VO talents in this industry, some of them belong to agents and some of them are freelancers who have long-term cooperative relations with recording studio. When the sound engineer of the studio receives the video from producer, they will discuss with the director and producer for the requirement of the VO talent. After that, the sound engineer will search for suitable VO talents from his pool, and send some selection of demos to the director and client for final pick, once confirmed the talents, they will arrange the schedule for recording. Before recording, the director and sound engineer will brief the talents together, and the talents will try some rounds base on the brief, after that, the sound engineer will simply mix the VO with background music and sound effect as a demo and send it to the client and director for comments. Then the sound engineer will tell the talents how to adjust the tone and manner, emotion and speed. The talents will try it again and again, at the same time, the sound engineer will capture some good parts for editing and composition. Although the video is only 30 seconds, in fact, the whole sound synthesis process takes about one to two days. Therefore, many things look simple but actually they are not easy.
