Q: What’s your current job now?

I would like to separate my work to 2 parts. One is for finance, the other is for admin. Regarding finance, I’m responsible for coordination of the company’s contract with accounting firms and the coordinate with a f. for the annual audit and monthly tax submission, as well as when we have the capital funds. We will need to do foreign exchange settlement. I also need to update the cash flow spreadsheet and share it with our CEO so for her understanding of the SH office. I also need to the cash position report, this table doesn’t only reflect the expenditures and also you can learn that if SH makes profit or lose profit. It sounds like it’s a bit trivial for the people in the management team but I want to make them aware how important of the work I’m doing. Since our CEO is based in HQ, so these financial reports can help the overall finance situation of the company. That’s really important entire company because we have 3 design company over the world.

We don’t take care of all of these bookkeeping on our own… I’m the only person that can trace all the expenses, so I will need to share a lot of info with the a. f.. So they can obtain the details of the expenses to make sure the tax calculation based on the right figures.

I think the majority of my work can be separated into 2 parts. One is about finance, and the other is about admin. Regarding finance, I’m responsible for a lot of bookkeeping tasks, such as updating our cashflow spreadsheet, cash position spreadsheet, review the monthly payroll, tax returns for HK company, check employees’ reimbursement, and working closely with an outside accounting firm for our finance concerns. These responsibilities may only seem like everyday tasks, but I think they’re very important and significant to our company. For example, the cash position report I’m responsible for doesn’t only reflect the expenditures but also gives us a clear picture of whether SH offices makes profit or lose profit. These financial reports can tell us the overall finance situation of company, and that’s really important for any future company strategies or operations. All of this to make sure that our company is running smoothly and legitimately under the policies and regulations of the local govt.

For administration, I don’t think I need to explain too much about that. I worked out the HR management and re-endorsement policy and at the same time, oversee their implementation. It’s something new since I joined the company. Also, I take initiative to establish and maintain good relationships with ….

Also, I’m always looking for the most cost-efficient vendors and maintain good relationship with them, especially with our landlord. I also take effort to establish good relationships within our company, such as when during the lockdown in SH, I looked for different suppliers to send food to our employees. I’m helping on business development as well, and communicating with one of our old client.

Q:Are you satisfied?

I’m satisfied with my current job, but of course, I still want to make progress/improve myself. I want to take on more responsibilities and contribute more with my working experience and effort.

Q:Future plans?

I haven’t been managing a team so I lack experience on that.

For my future career plan, my goal is to learn to manage my own team. I have not had the opportunity to lead a team, so I would really appreciate such an opportunity. At the same time, I think I would like to take some training programs to improve my management-related skills.

Q: Do you think there’s anything in the working place can be improved.

I think our design service, though we’re very professional, is quite singular at the moment. It’s a very rough idea but I think we can do some brainstorming on how can we provide service to startups or potential clients with smaller budgets. This can expand our potential client pool and give us more opportunities.
