Group Class Notes 28th February (Jesse)

A famous Chinese saying goes, “Suzhou and Hangzhou are paradises on earth”. However the paradise I am talking about today is neither of them. A foreigner friend told me that he has been to Hangzhou and Suzhou multiple times. He went to find the clean river, silent courtyards and a moment to dream away, but rushing tourists and rubbish often bothered him. He doesn’t know if he can find a true ‘paradise’ in the fast developing world a place where all the noise, worries and reconstruction stop, and you’re only left with beautiful scenery and highly protected ancient buildings, until he arrived a small city in the north of Jiangsu province. The name of the city is Nantong, what a surprise? Now I’ll tell you why.

He went to find clean rivers, silent courtyards and a moment to dream away, but rushing tourists and rubbish often bothered (annoyed / disturbed) him. He doesn’t know if he can find a true ‘paradise’ in the fast developing world, a place where all the noise, worries and reconstruction stop, and you’re only left with (all that remains is) beautiful scenery and highly protected ancient buildings – until he arrived a small city in the north of Jiangsu province. (And, what a surprise that the name of the city is Nantong) The name of the city is Nantong, what a surprise! Now I’ll tell you why.
