Homework

Tell me about how you feel about foreigners immigrating to China? Does this affect you and what do you think about China’s immigration process?

Speaking exercise

Moderate Level Topic: Immigration

Immigrant [n]
A person who has moved to a new country permanently.

Immigrating [v]
Being in the process of moving to a new country.

Immigration [n]
The action of coming to live in a new country.

Immigrated [n]
Having successfully move to a new country.

Q: If you could immigrate anywhere, where would you go and why?

Original
A:
Maybe a country in Europe or England. The first reason is the language, I can speak English a little but I can’t speak any other foreign language. I think England has a long history. You also know I’m a football fan, so I usually watch the English Premier League. Every person in England has two sides of personality, they can be a gentleman and they can be very crazy.

Another country if I could immigrate to is Canada. There are many, many Chinese in Canada. I think maybe it is easy to adapt for a Chinese who is a new immigrant and I can also speak English in Canada. Maybe it is more cold than in China and people speak English or French. This country is bigger than China. The quantity of people compared to China is less. No one likes crowded. I don’t like the crowd here but I tolerate it.

A: Maybe a country in Europe or England. The first reason is the language, I can speak English a little but I can’t speak any other foreign language. I think England has a long history and I find this history interesting. You also know I’m a football fan, so I usually watch the English Premier League. English football fans have two sides to their personality, they can be gentlemanly on the street but crazy in the sports stadium. They can be childish when they watch a match.

Another country that if I would immigrate to is Canada. I would choose Canada over America because it is so much safer. There are many, many Chinese in Canada and I think that maybe it is easier easy to adapt for a fellow Chinese who is a new immigrant to adapt. I know that people in Canada speak English or French, I also can speak English in Canada.
Another reason why I can adapt is because Canadians speak English or French, so I can communicate with them in English. Canada may be colder than China but I think that I can get use to it. Even though the land in Canada is bigger, the population is lower, which means that it is less crowded. I prefer this because I don’t like crowds and I only tolerate it when I am living in China.
