eg: What is 8 plus 5? 13

eg: What is 5 minus 8? Negative 3   (-3)

eg: What is 5 times 5? Five times five is twenty-five.

/ – Divided by

eg: What is 10 divided by 5? (10/5) Ten divided by five is two.

= – Equals / Is

eg: Five plus 2 IS 7.

eg: 12 x 5 = 60.   Twelve times five is sixty.

Simple Present:

How many hours do you work a day?

I work 9 hours a day. (Usually, Always, Often…)

I Like (Usually, Always, Often)

I like drinking a cup of coffee in the morning. (every morning, or often in the morning)

Simple Past:

How many hours did you work today?

I worked 9 hours today.

I Liked / I used to like (like before, but don’t like now)

I liked him until he left my hometown. (don’t like him anymore)


I almost work overtime everyday.  (It really means you don’t work overtime) But then the boss lets me go home.

I work overtime almost every day.  (It really means, you work overtime, very often)

I ate that cake.  (I ate it)

I almost ate that cake. (I didn’t eat it)

I ate that whole cake. (Ate all of it)

I almost ate that whole cake. (Ate a lot of cake, but not ALL)
