to sell someone (On sth.) – to persuade someone to agree to the idea
eg: So she sold you on the necklace huh? Yeah, at first I was hesitant, but after she told me the price will go up next month I was sold.
to buy it – to believe it, to accept it as true
eg: He said he’s a Dr., but I’m not buying it. There is no way he finished medical school before he turned 19.
eg: A few days ago I went to an Apple store to change my battery. But someone told me I have to book an appointment online. So I said, can I get my battery changed if I book online? They said we have to wait because the number of batteries is limited. But I didn’t buy it, I think it’s just an excuse to give them more time.

Maiden name – the name of your mother before she got married, her family name
eg: In China women always keep their maiden names when they get married.
eg: I forgot my password and the first security question asks me for my mother’s maiden name.
