What have you been up to?

Before the festival I was busy with my work, then I had a rest, that’s why I didn’t come.  – Before the festival, I was pretty busy at work and exhausted when I got home. Then I took it easy during the break.

a sale – an event that usually lasts a few weeks, where some products are cheaper

eg: H & M is having a sale this week. All shoes are 50% off.

touristy – a place with too many tourists, and changed to suit only tourists

eg:  A lot of people don’t like BaDaLing Great wall, because it is too touristy.

Rest – because you are tired

eg: I’ve been working all day, I just wanna rest now.

eg: You should rest, or your cold will get worse.

break (N.) – free time, stop doing sth. then start later

eg: I’m gonnna take a break in 20 minutes.

eg: I have a break at 5pm. (already scheduled)

time off – not working

eg: I have sundays off. (off every sunday)

eg: I want to take Monday off, so I will ask the boss. (not already scheduled)

eg: I want to request Monday off.

eg: I wanted to request Monday off, but Joanne already did, so now I can’t.
