Joan’s Example: I think my cousin will go to Thailand in March.

I think you should read more books. (My opinion, maybe you will not do it)

Joan’s Example: I think my colleagues should have English lessons at SE.

get – to obtain, the action of taking sth. so you have it.

eg: I need to get a new phone.

a raise (N.) – a higher wage(per hour) or salary(fixed)

eg: I got a raise last month.

eg: Can you believe they gave Joan a raise? OMG!

be effective – new policy will start from this date

eg: My raise will be effective starting march 1st.

eg: The no smoking policy is not in effect yet for most of Shanghai.

eg: Effective immediately ( starts now!) , all employees must add their contact info to the company list.

Durian – liu lian, a large fruit in southeast Asia that has a spiky outside and a strange smell.

spike – a shape, that is long and comes to a point.

eg: Durians can be dangerous because of the spikes.

quit – stop doing something

eg: If I have a better opportunity I will quit my job.

eg: Yes, hypothetically speaking it could be done.
