Rather – when you want one thing, more than another thing.

eg: I would rather go to _____   than ______.

eg: I would rather go to New York than London.

eg: I would rather not ____.  (do what).

eg: I would rather not talk about it. (Than talk about it)

eg: I’d rather not go there for dinner.  (Any other place)

eg: I would rather eat/have rice than noodles.

eg: I would rather be(V.) blind(ADJ)(can’t see) than deaf(ADJ)(can’t hear).

PAST TENSE:

I would have rather eaten rice than noodles.   (You got noodles).

WOULD + HAVE + RATHER + DONE

I was born a girl, I would have rather been born a boy

WOULD + HAVE + RATHER + BEEN


T: Where did you go for your vacation?

P: I went to Qingdao.

T: Did you like it?

P: Yes, but I would have rather gone to GuLangYu.  (You went to Qingdao, but you wanted to go to GuLangYu)
