Vocabulary

I learned how to cook from Cantonese cooking.

I don’t like ordering food and taking it home.

stir-fry – food fried quickly in oil

eg: I will do some stir-fry vegetables.     I will make some stir-fry vegetables.

steam V. – to cook sth. OVER hot water, NOT IN THE WATER!!! using the hot air to cook it.

eg: I will steam some vegetables

boil  V. – to cook sth. IN very hot water

eg: I will boil some chicken, carrots

mushrooms – a kind of food that grows on the ground, looks like an umbrella

eg: If the mushroom has a beautiful color then it’s probably very dangerous.

eg: I don’t like uncooked mushrooms.

fermented – prepare the food and let it wait for a long time before it is ready. Like Korean Kimchi (La bai cai)

eg: We make a dish that uses peas, alcohol, suagr and salt. Then we let it ferment for a year. After that we have fermented peas.

eg: They serve some fermented vegetables on the side.

Real estate – a business that sells or rents apartments, rooms, buildings or land.

eg: He works in real estate, for Pacific Rehouse.
