MAKE VS. LET

The boss MADE me work late. (you don’t want to work late, he FORCED you)

If I didn’t work late, he would fire me.

The boss LET me leave early. (You wanted to leave early, he ALLOWED you)

But I wanted to finish my work, so I didn’t leave.

gang/mafia – group of bad people, criminals hei shou dang

eg: He is in a gang. There are some gangs in this neighborhood.

eg: There are many mafia guys around there.

confessional N. – a small room in a church where you can confess your sins to a priest. (church father)

confess V. – to say or admit something you did wrong

eg: I confess, I stole your lunch.

eg: Maybe he will confess.

confession N. – all the things they said, that they confessed

eg: The police have his confession, he will go to jail.

MMA mixed martial arts – a style of fighting that uses all or many styles, like real fighting.

eg: UFC is the most popular brand for MMA.

eg: Kung Fu is the Chinese martial art.

eg: Karate is the Japanese martial art.

eg: Bruce Lee was the first person to use mixed martial arts. He actually invented his own martial art called Jeet Kun Do.

eg: Actually there are many kinds of Chinese martial arts.

hub – a central place which all other things gather around

eg: Beijing is a government hub.

eg: Shanghai is an economic hub.

eg: The Hongqiao transportation hub is in HongQiao District.
