Vocabulary

bossy – to act like a boss

eg: She is bossy, but nice.

notes – something you wrote down so you can remember it or review it.

eg: Did you check your notes?

fill in – to take an empty position

eg: Can you fill in for Sarah, she is sick today and we need someone to run the meeting. (You will run the meeting because Sarah can’t)

blow up – 1. fill with air, like a balloon  2. explode   3. to become angry

eg: Blow up these balloons. I already blew up 10 of them.

eg: The bomb exploded after everyone got out safely.

eg: She blew up because her friend didn’t arrive on time.

bring up – to mention sth. to Start to talk about something

eg: Don’t bring up dogs, her dog just died and she will be really sad if you bring it up.

eg: Don’t bring up her boyfriend, they just broke up.

call off – plan to do sth. but cancel it

eg: I had to call off our date, because I saw her with another guy at lunch this afternoon.

eg: I called off the class in the afternoon because I have a friend to meet.

eg: I call off my class if I have to work overtime.

carry on – continue sth. you have been doing

eg: Sorry, I have to step out, you can carry on with the meeting and I’ll catch up later.

come across – seem to be a certain way

eg: I tried to be happy for him, but I think it came across as fake.

get along – to treat each other well and be friendly

eg: We are not really friends, but we get along.
