Vocabulary

I watch in Japanese with Chinese subtitles.

There was alcohol prohibition in China too. Well, really it was alcohol restriction.

dubbed – when you replace the voice of actors in an animated show

eg: The English dubbed version is terrible. It’s better with the original Japanese voice actors.

ethnicity – ming zu

eg: It’s only popular with minority groups

niche – something that is small and very specific, usually for a smaller group of people

eg: This fan meeting is only popular with niche groups.

eg: That is a niche part of the market. 50 year old unmarried women who ride a motorcycle are a niche market.

anime – Japanese animation style

eg: Dragonball is one of my favorite anime shows.

live action – usually when a cartoon or video game becomes a movie with real actors

eg: They made that cartoon into a live action movie.
