UAT – User acceptance testing

eg: Usually I don’t do business trips but I have to conduct the UAT in Hong Kong this weekend.

short handed – don’t have enough workers or help

eg: What does short handed mean?

It means, my company is short of workers. to do some work.

eg: I’m a little short handed. Can someone give me a hand in the kitchen?

toll – a price, usually paid for going through something

eg: You have to pay a toll to drive on highways in China.

eg: Years of sunbathing took a toll on Mary’s skin. ( her skin is now damaged from the sun. )

take a toll – an experience costs you something

eg: Having kids will take a toll on the mother. Some moms have told me they look different after having a baby.

wire – a metal string

eg: They tightened the wire to pull my teeth closer.

eg: What are these wires coming out the desk?

cord – yi tiao shenme, a string

eg: We need a new computer cord.

eg: Do you have an extension cord? I need to plug in some more things.

extend – make longer

eg: Extend your arm, close your eyes, then touch your nose.

sunblock – something to protect your skin, like a lotion

eg: On vacation I always put sunblock on.

Grammar

I pull the teeth and wear the brace for about 2 years.   (PULL is not wrong. But has a different meaning)

I pull teeth, I am a dentist. (pull, has the meaning you want, USUALLY)

I pulled the teeth (You pulled them? wow)

The dentist pulled the teeth and I wore braces for about two years.
