Don’t change your standard!

I have prepared a talk today regarding my work. One of my duty is helping customers develop the colors and prints they want to order. When they send a color standard and give information of fabric quality,I need to contact a proper dyer or printer and ask them to make a swatch accordingly.

Once the swath is approved, we can arrange bulk production. Due to it takes a while to send it from SH to NY, I compare the swath with the original standard strictly and decide whether it can be sent to customer or not, so it is a regular part of my daily routine to check swatches. They don’t have to match the standard for 100% , but need to be within range of customers’ tolerance. If not, I’ll ask the supplier to make another one which is expected to be closer to the standard. This way,I can have the swathes approved quickly and easily.
However, there are those that want to challenge the rule. One day I got a swath which was way too different from customer’s standard,so I called the supplier and asked her to make another one. The girl said:”I think it’s close enough to the standard and I’m wondering if you could just send it, in case customer will approve it.” I was so surprised because I was told this girl used to work in my company and she was even more strict than me but why she would change so much. Now I get it. Your position decides how you think. When you work in an agent company, customers come first to you,but when you work in a factory, you just want to make your work as easy as possible.

If you are unhappy, you should then change jobs. If you are so unhappy, why would you then stay here?
