Open the door =there is only one door. Open it

Open a door = there are many doors. Open one of them

Let’s read a book = any book

Let’s read the book = there is only one = the book we already spoke about

Ben is an English teacher. He is the teacher who will teach you today.

• A Buddhist is a person who believes in the Buddha.

Trump is a crazy guy but he is the next president.

(There are many crazy guys. Trump is one of them. There is only one next president and he is Trump.)

I saw an elephant at the zoo (There are many elephants at the zoo, I saw one of them)

I saw the elephant at the zoo (There is only one elephant at the zoo)

THE can be used with ideas

I like the sea.  (sea = 原则/概念–》 there is only one)

I don’t like the plane, I like the train. (plane and train are ideas –> there is only one)

I am at the office.

You often use the with places or things like: the office, the sea, the zoo, the plane, the train, the airport, the train station, the bus station, the hospital
