Vocabulary

Rent vs. Rental – rent is what you do; a rental is what you buy
e.g. Oracle rents cloud-storage space to small companies.
e.g. My company has a 1 terabyte rental for Oracle cloud storage.

Byte – a unit of computer storage space; 字节
e.g. One song requires 5 thousand bytes of storage space.

Discount – when you don’t pay the whole price for something
e.g. When you work for an airline you can fly for free, or for a discount.

Familiar – 熟悉, to know something or someone well
e.g. Because Jade worked for China Eastern Airline, she is very familiar with the United States.

Route – the way you travel between two places (where you go)
e.g. China Eastern has a route from Shanghai to Chicago.
e.g. Our route from Shanghai to Xi’an goes through Suzhou.
Leave Shanghai ———————(Stop in Suzhou)———————————————–>Arrive in Xi’an

Jet-lag – when you are very tired from time change
e.g. After traveling from China to the US, I was very jet-lagged.

Safe – when you don’t have to worry about someone hurting you or taking your things 安全
e.g. Xuhui District is a very safe place to live.

Dangerous – not safe
e.g. Paris is too dangerous to visit alone.

Barrel – a box of wood for storing whiskey
e.g. You can buy your own barrel of whiskey if you go to where they make it.
