The affirmative action in college admissions is a major and highly contentious legacy of the civil rights era in US. The concept of affirmative action seems convictive and understandable. However, if the universities, for example, Harvard, kept almost the same students ratios of different races, despite changes in application rates and qualifications, raising the doubt that whether an unspoken soft quota of “racial balancing” is conducted by those universities. If aforementioned theory is true, it may explain why Harvard would give Asian- Americans lower scores for personal traits and reject qualified Asian – Americans in favor of African – Americans and Latinos. You are rejected, because the quota for your race is used up. This logic sounds not reasonable or fair at all. I believe the goal of the affirmative action is to promote fairness, but not to create another kind of unfairness.

In my opinion, the diversity of our society or university is not wrong, but we may have to think about the original intention of the policies. No matter the applicants are Asian – Americans, African – Americans, Latinos, they are Americans. The color of their skins or the races they represent should not be a factor, which may affect their opportunities to get better education.
