resign (v):to give up a job or position by telling your employer that you are leaving
辞职;辞去(职务);放弃(工作)
E.g.: He resigned from the company in order to take a more challenging job.
他从这家公司辞职以便能够从事更有挑战性的工作。
E.g.: She resigned as director.
她辞去了董事职务。

fire (v):to remove someone from their job, either because they have done something wrong or badly, or as a way of saving the cost of employing them
