fierce (adj): 1-violent and forceful:
E.g.: fierce thunderstorms
E.g.: The city had been under fierce attack.
​2-Fierce can also mean severe or extremely strong:
E.g.: She’s a fierce critic of US policies.
E.g.: He was a fierce competitor.

versus (preposition) vs., uk also v used to say that one team or person is competing against another:
E.g.: Tomorrow’s game is Newcastle versus Arsenal.

-used to compare two things or ideas, especially when you have to choose between them:
E.g.: private education vs. state education

vary (v): 1-to change in amount or level or make a change in amount or level:
vary considerably/greatly/widely E.g.: The incomes of self-employed professionals can vary widely from one month to the next.
E.g.: Employees can vary their work time up to two hours before or after normal working hours.
vary between sth and sthE.g.: Prices vary between $65 and $160.

lecture (n): 1-a formal talk on a serious subject given to a group of people, especially students:
E.g.: We went to a lecture on Italian art.
E.g.: Who’s giving the lecture this afternoon?
