Vocabulary

amateur-业余爱好者, taking part in an activity for pleasure, not as a job:
E.g.: an amateur runner/boxer/historian
E.g.: He was an amateur singer until the age of 40, when he turned professional.

professional (adj): used to describe someone who does a job that people usually do as a hobby:
E.g.: She’s a professional dancer/photographer.
E.g.: He’s a runner who’s just turned professional.

gear (n): 1-the equipment, clothes, etc. that you use to do a particular activity:
E.g.: fishing/running gear
E.g.: Police in riot gear (= protective clothing) arrived to control the protesters.

along (preposition): in a line next to something long:
E.g.: a row of houses along the river
E.g.: Cars were parked all along the road.
E.g.: We will run along the river bank

participant (n):参与者,  a person who takes part in or becomes involved in a particular activity.
E.g.: The games is an international sporting event with more than three thousand participants.
E.g.: She has been an active participant in the discussion.

route (n): 1-a particular way or direction between places:
E.g.: The most direct route is to take the expressway.
​2-A route is also a fixed path for regularly moving or delivering people or things:
E.g.: bus routes
E.g.: a supply route
E.g.: I don’t like the route of the Shanghai Marathon
