Homework

Use some of the vocabulary from today in some writing. Choose a topic that lets you use the words we learned.

Vocabulary

per capita (adv/adj):If you express an amount per capita, you mean that amount for each person:
E.g.:France and Germany invest far more per capita in public transport than Britain.
E.g.:The per capita income in the country is very low.

stagnant (adj): 1-not growing or developing:
E.g.: Recently, the company’s sales have been declining or stagnant.
E.g.: stagnant economy/growth/market The business sector was pressing for tax cuts to stimulate a stagnant economy.
E.g.: stagnant prices/sales/wages

contradiction (n): 1-the fact of something being the complete opposite of something else or very different from something else, so that one of them must be wrong:
E.g.: You say that you’re good friends and yet you don’t trust him. Isn’t that a contradiction?

rampant (adj): 1-(of something bad) getting worse quickly and in an uncontrolled way:
E.g.: rampant corruption
E.g.: Rampant inflation means that our wage increases soon become worth nothing.

penchant (n): 1-a liking for, an enjoyment of, or a habit of doing something, especially something that other people might not like:
E.g.: a penchant for melodrama/skiing/exotic clothes

polarization (n) 1-the act of dividing something, especially something that contains different people or opinions, into two completely separate groups:
E.g.: The polarization of society into rich and poor can clearly be seen in urban areas.
E.g.: Our goal is lively discussion, not polarization.

E.g.: To polarize the society

singular/plural=mouse/mice

stratum/pl. strata (n): 1-one of the parts or layers into which something is separated:
E.g.: The report shows that drugs have penetrated every stratum of American society.

forge (v): 1-to make or produce something, especially with some difficulty:
E.g.: The accident forged a close bond between the two families.
E.g.: She forged a new career for herself as a singer

abundant (adj): 1-more than enough:
E.g.: an abundant supply of food
E.g.: There is abundant evidence that cars have a harmful effect on the environment.
