Vocabulary

canyon-峡谷, a large valley with very steep sides and usually a river flowing along the bottom
E.g.: The Grand Canyon

desert (n):沙漠 1-an area, often covered with sand or rocks, where there is very little rain and not many plants:
E.g.: They were lost in the desert for nine days.
E.g.: We had to cross a large area of arid, featureless desert.

dessert (n):点心 1-sweet food eaten at the end of a meal:
E.g.： a dessert fork/spoon
E.g.： For dessert there’s apple pie or fruit.
E.g.： If you make the main course, I’ll make a dessert.

mud (n):泥 earth that has been mixed with water:
E.g.: My trousers got covered in mud, but luckily I was able to brush them clean.
E.g.: My car’s stuck in the mud – it won’t shift.
