Vocabulary

essay (n):a short piece of writing on a particular subject, especially one done by students as part of the work for a course:
E.g.: For homework I want you to write an essay on endangered species.

recently (adj): 1-not long ago, or at a time that started not long ago:
E.g.: Have you seen any good films recently?

colonize (v): to send people to live in and govern another country or planet:
E.g.: South America was colonized by the Spanish in the 16th century.
E.g.: Humans are planning to colonize Mars

Colony (n): 1-a country or area controlled politically by a more powerful country that is often far away:
E.g.: Australia and New Zealand are former British colonies.

antenna (n): 1-天线, An antenna is a device that sends and receives television or radio signals.

Reply (v/n): 1-回复, to answer a question::
E.g.: I try to reply (v) to letters the day I receive them.
E.g.: I asked why, but he made/gave no reply (n).

civilization (n): 1-文明, human society with its well developed social organizations, or the culture and way of life of a society or country at a particular period in time:
E.g.: Some people think that nuclear war would mean the end of civilization.

retreat (v/n): 撤退(v), 撤回 (n), to go away from a place or person in order to escape from fighting or danger:
E.g.: Attacks by enemy aircraft forced the tanks to retreat (v) (from the city).
E.g.: The army was forced to retreat (v).
2-(N) a move back by soldiers or an army, either because they have been defeated or in order to avoid fighting:
E.g.: the retreat (n) from Dunkirk
E.g.: Enemy soldiers are now in (full) retreat.

mystery (n): 神秘 1– something strange or not known that is difficult to understand or to explain

invasion (n): 入侵1– when an army or country uses force to enter and take control of another country:
E.g.: Martian invasion of Earth
