Vocabulary

squash (n): a game played between two or four people on a special closed playing area that involves hitting a small rubber ball against a wall

racket (n): an object used for hitting the ball in various sports, consisting of a net fixed tightly to a round frame with a long handle:
E.g.: a tennis/squash/badminton racket

marathon (n): 马拉松赛跑,a long running race of about 42 kilometers or 26 miles
E.g.: the London marathon
E.g.: to run a marathon

athletics (n): 1-竞技; the general name for a particular group of sports in which people compete, including running, jumping, and throwing:
E.g.: an athletics team/club/meeting
E.g.: We love to watch the Olympics – especially the athletics.

compete (v)-竞争, to try to be more successful than someone or some, to take part in a race or competition:
E.g.: Are you competing in the 100 meters?
E.g.: The two athletes are competing for the gold medal.
2-To compete is also to be part of a sports activity in which you are trying to win:
E.g.: He will compete in swimming this spring and play football next fall.

competition (n): an organized event in which people try to win a prize by being the best, fastest, etc.:
E.g.: a swimming/chess competition.
E.g.: She’s entered a crossword competition.

gymnastics (n)体操, physical exercises and activities performed inside, often using equipment such as bars and ropes, intended to increase the body’s strength and the ability to move and bend easily:
E.g.: I quite liked gymnastics at school.
E.g.: Did you watch the Olympic men’s gymnastics?
