heads-up (n): 1-a warning that something is going to happen, usually so that you can prepare for it:
E.g.: This note is just to give you a heads-up that Vicky will be arriving next week.
​2-a short talk or statement about how a situation or plan is developing:
E.g.: The boss called a meeting to give us a heads-up on the way the project was going.

door step-门阶

retreat (n): 1-a move back by soldiers or an army, either because they have been defeated or in order to avoid fighting:
E.g.: the retreat from Dunkirk
E.g.: Enemy soldiers are now in (full) retreat.

2-a private and safe place:
E.g.: a country/mountain/lakeside retreat

3-a period of time used to pray and study quietly, or to think carefully, away from normal activities and duties:
E.g.: went on (a) retreat at/to a monastery in Wales.

stele (n): 1-a vertical piece of stone with writing cut into it, often used in the past as a gravestone (= a stone that shows where a dead person is buried):
E.g.: At the base of Tikal’s North Acropolis stands a row of tall carved stones, or stelae.
E.g.: A foundation gave the museum money to put the stele back together.
