Vocabulary

drip (n): 1-us also IV a method of slowly giving someone liquid medicine or food through a tube into a vein, or a piece of equipment for doing this:
E.g.: He was on a drip for three days.

pneumonia (n):肺炎. 1-a serious illness in which one or both lungs become red and swollen and filled with liquid:
E.g.: People who are bedridden can easily get pneumonia.

bedridden (adj): 1-having to stay in bed because of illness or injury:
E.g.: His aunt was 93 and bedridden.

trigger (n): 1-a part of a gun that causes the gun to fire when pressed:
E.g.: It’s not clear who actually pulled the trigger.

trigger (v): 1-to cause something to start:
E.g.: Some people find that certain foods trigger their headaches.
E.g.: Ultraviolet-B radiation triggers the skin to produce vitamin D.
E.g.: The racial killings at the weekend have triggered off a wave of protests.

ample (adj): 1-more than enough:
E.g.: You’ll have ample opportunity to ask questions after the talk.
E.g.: There’s ample evidence that the lawyer knew exactly what she was doing.
E.g.: They had ample warning of the factory closure.

E.g.: Confidence in the government is at rock bottom.
E.g.: Prices have reached rock bottom.
E.g.: They were selling the goods at rock-bottom prices.

rock bottom (n) [UNHAPPY]: 1-the most unhappy that someone has ever been in their life:
E.g.: Dan had just left me and I was at rock bottom.
E.g.: Alcoholics often have to reach/hit rock bottom before they can recognize that they have a problem.

simply (adv): 1- completely or as much as possible:
E.g.: You look simply (= really) beautiful in that dress.
E.g.: The hunger in parts of Africa is terrible – there’s (quite) simply (= without doubt) no other word for it.

2- only:
E.g.: I don’t like my job – I simply do it for the money.

elaborate (adj): 1-containing a lot of careful detail or many detailed parts:
E.g.: You want a plain blouse to go with that skirt – nothing too elaborate.
E.g.: They’re making the most elaborate preparations for the wedding.
E.g.: He came out with such an elaborate excuse that I didn’t quite believe him.

elaborate (v): 1-to add more information to or explain something that you have said:
E.g.: The congresswoman said she was resigning, but refused to elaborate on her reasons for doing so.

cigarette (n): 1-a small paper tube filled with cut pieces of tobacco that people smoke:
E.g.: a packet of cigarettes
E.g.: She lit a cigarette.
