Vocabulary

adopt (v): 1-to legally take another person’s child into your own family and take care of him or her as your own child:
E.g.: They’ve adopted a baby girl.
E.g.: She had the child adopted (= she gave her baby to someone else to take care of).
E.g.: They have no children of their own, but they’re hoping to adopt.

foster (v): 1- to take care of a child, usually for a limited time, without being the child’s legal parent:
E.g.: Would you consider fostering (a child)?

adapt (v): 1- to change something to suit different conditions or uses:
E.g.: Many software companies have adapted popular programs to the new operating system.
E.g.: The recipe here is a pork roast adapted from Caroline O’Neill’s book “Louisiana Kitchen”.
E.g.: We had to adapt our plans to fit Jack’s timetable.

excursion (n): 1-a short journey usually made for pleasure, often by a group of people:
E.g.: This year’s annual excursion will be to Lincoln.
E.g.: Next week we’re going on an excursion.

velcro (n): 1-魔术贴. a brand name for a type of material that consists of two pieces of cloth that stick together with a system of very small hooks, used to fasten clothes, bags, etc.

zipper (n): 1- a device consisting of two rows of metal or plastic teeth-like parts that are brought together by pulling a small sliding piece over them, used for closing openings in clothing, bags, etc.:
E.g.: to pull a zipper up/down
E.g.: I can’t open my bag – the zipper is stuck.

accordion (n):手风琴 1-a box-shaped musical instrument consisting of a folded central part with a keyboard, played by pushing the two ends towards each other
