Vocabulary

gridlock (n): 1-a situation where roads in a town become so blocked by cars that it is impossible for any traffic to move:
E.g.: A car breaking down at rush hour could cause gridlock across half the city.

snowflake (n): 1-a small piece of snow that falls from the sky. Snowflakes are sometimes represented as six-sided crystals on Christmas cards, decorations, etc.

flake (n): 1- a person you cannot trust to remember things or to do what they promise, or someone who behaves in a strange way

flake out (v): 1-to do something strange or not do what you are expected to do :
E.g. : I’m tired of relying on other people – they keep flaking out on me.

snowed under-having too much to do:
E.g.: I am totally snowed under at school

fast (v): 1-to eat no food for a period of time:
E.g. :One day a week he fasts for health reasons.

fast (n): 1-a period of time when you eat no food:
E.g.: Hundreds of prisoners began a fast in protest about prison conditions.

feast (n): 1-a special meal with very good food or a large meal for many people:
E.g.: “What a feast!” she said, surveying all the dishes on the table.
E.g.: a wedding feast

porridge (n)/oatmeal: 1-a thick, soft food made from oats boiled in milk or water, eaten hot for breakfast

oats (n): 1-a plant that is a type of grass, or its grain used in baking and cooking or to feed animals:
E.g.: a field of oats
E.g.: rolled oats (= oats that have been pressed flat)
E.g.: These biscuits contain oats.

pickle (n): 1-vegetables or fruit that have been preserved in a vinegar sauce or salty water:
E.g.: cheese and pickle sandwiches
E.g.: Have some pickles with your sandwich.
2-a cucumber that has been preserved in vinegar or salty water, or slices of this:
E.g.: a sweet/sour pickle

well done (adj): 1-(of meat) cooked so that it is firm and has a grey-brown colour all the way through:
E.g.: “How would you like your steak?” “Well done.
