debate (n):(a) serious discussion of a subject in which many people take part
谈论，讨论；争论，辩论
E.g.: Education is the current focus of public debate.
教育是目前大众谈论的焦点。
E.g.: How we proceed from here is a matter for debate.
我们下一步怎样做还需要讨论。
E.g.: Over the year we have had several debates about future policy.

argument (n): a disagreement, or the process of disagreeing
争论；争吵；争辩；争执
E.g.: The children had an argument about/over what game to play.
孩子们为了玩哪个游戏吵了起来。
E.g.: He got into an argument with Jeff in the pub last night.
昨晚他和杰夫在酒馆里起了争执。

argue (v): to give the reasons for your opinion, idea, belief, etc.
论证；说理；辩论
E.g.: The senator argued for/in favour of/against making cuts in military spending.
部长提出支持／反对削减军费开支的理由。
E.g.: The senator argued that cuts in military spending were needed.
部长论证了削减军费开支的必要性。

harsh (adj): unpleasant, unkind, cruel, or more severe than is necessary
令人不快的；严酷的；（无端地）严厉的
E.g.: harsh criticism
严厉的批评
E.g.: We thought the punishment was rather harsh for such a minor offence.
我们认为对这样的小错，这种惩罚太严酷了。
E.g.: “There is no alternative,” she said in a harsh voice.

get along (v): If two or more people get along, they like each other and are friendly to each other.

be on the same page –to have the same ideas as someone else:
E.g.: Everyone in the office has to be on the same page about what our top priorities are.

embezzle (v): to secretly take money that is in your care or that belongs to an organization or business you work for
贪污，侵吞；盗用，挪用（钱款）
E.g.: She embezzled thousands of dollars from the charity.
她侵吞了慈善机构数千美元的善款。

embezzlement (n): 贪污罪;挪用公款罪
Embezzlement is the crime of embezzling money.

faction (n): a group within a larger group, especially one with slightly different ideas from the main group

formality (n): something that has to be done but has no real importance
礼节；俗套；例行公事
E.g.: You’ll have to sign the visitors’ book, but it’s just a formality.

vocalize (v): to express feelings or ideas in words
说出；用言语表达
E.g.: Most patients find it very difficult to vocalize feelings of shame.
