I remembered one male patient, he was maybe in his 50s. He had delirium and was at the advanced stage of brain tumor. In the last 2 weeks, he was irritable and loud, he would scream/yell at people for no reason. Doctors thought his behaviors was caused by the tumor in his brain. He would also hit our staff, especially in the evenings. Actually, we thought he was a difficult patient/ we thought he was hard/difficult to deal with. and I often thought I shouldn’t take his words seriously.

But one day, he was depressive and stated he wanted to discharge from hospital and first I thought his delirium occurred again but then he said my tumor can’t be healed anymore and I wouldn’t have any desire to live, that really impressed me and taught me a good lesson. Cuz I always thought delirium patients didn’t have normal thoughts. Actually they have their own feeling and i should respect them.

But one day, he was in a depressive state/status and told us that he wanted to discharge from the hospital. At first I thought his delirium occurred again but then he said that he would/will never be cured and he didn’t have any desire to live and he just wanted to end the treatment. That really shocked me and taught me a good lesson. Cuz I always thought patients with delirium didn’t have normal thoughts. Actually they have their own feelings and I should respect them.
