Vocabulary

solid = 坚硬的，固体的

Ice is solid water. The sales team did a great job. They have had solid numbers.

I have no reason to work for free. Working causes problems and stress.

objective 客观的

subjective 主观的

It’s very subjective to say that a singer is good or bad. There are no objective ways to say that.

Of course, I am angry that we failed. But he tried his best, I have no objective reason to be angry at him.

object = objective, goal, purpose, (~reason)

The object of my trip to China was to see the world.

settle down 安下心

The reason I don’t travel anymore is because I want to settle down.

subject = topic 话题，主题

The subject of this book is travelling around the world.

I have to write a paper for next week, but I haven’t chosen a subject yet.

substance = matter, what bodies are made of 物质

an obstacle 障碍 = something that slows you down and that you must go over

obstruct = to block a way and make it difficult to go through

Do not obstruct the fire exit, it’s dangerous ! It should be kept unobstructed at all times.

Some objects were obstructing the exit, it wasn’t blocked but it took me a long time to go through.
