Vocabulary

a candidate 候选人 = someone who takes part in any kind of competition (an election, a game, a job interview, etc.)

a stroller = a cart for babies

a toddler = a 3-year old child

over-dramatic

a podcast = a recording of an audio broadcast

pull off = to try something hard, risky (a stunt, a plan,

Don’t pull off making sexual jokes at work, you don’t know what can happen out of it.

Some people pull off parties in risky places, like the top of a police station.

a manoeuvre = an action that requires high skills or dexterity

It’s sometimes hard to manoeuvre your car in a parking spot.

China is carrying out military manoeuvres in the North Sea.

caliber = the size of a bullet (=how big or powerful something is)

He is a small-caliber thief (he only steals from old women)

My dad is a high-caliber professional in his field.

This new computer is spy-caliber. (=super good, even spies could use it)

Working with kids requires ninja-caliber manoeuvres to avoid being interrupted.

uberadjective = German for very

Can’t come tonight. I am uber-busy.

When the boss kicked me out, I was uber-pissed.

precocious = uber-mature, who has developed skills very early (opposite of slow, usually a child)

an intrusion = when an intruder gets into your home (=trespassing)

graze = eat grass

rural = from the countryside =/= urban

a plight = a great difficulty

Having heavily sick children is a plight.

weigh in = chime in = come into a conversation to tell your opinion

The two people were having an argument so I weighed in and told them both were partly at fault.
