power cut – no electricity

ex. When I turned on the TV, it caused a power cut in the room.

taxi meter – the device that shows you the price of your taxi fare

ex. It is common to hear stories of taxi drivers rigging the taxi meter.

tap water – water that comes out of the taps

kettle – a container you can use to boil water

germ – a very small organism that causes disease

ex. There are some harmful germs on uncooked meat.

ex. Germs multiply when the weather gets warm.

bacteria – very small organism that causes disease

ex. Tap water contains bacteria that may be harmful.

allergy – when your body has a negative response to food/insects/substances by being in contact with them

ex. He has a peanut allergy.

tolerate – how your body is able to take sth without displaying bad side effects

ex. The test allows me to see how my body tolerates each type of substance.
