“Excuse me, could we please have some more water please? … We’d like the bill / check please. I don’t want a receipt.”

  • the menu =caidan
  • a meal / dish = one plate of food
  • the bill / check = maidan
  • a receipt= fa piao

Vocabulary

Excuse me = a polite way to say “I am sorry” —> What are you sorry for?

  • Whoops / Ooops ! :S ….  I accidentally spilled my juice = Not a big problem / No worries /Mei shi.
  • My bad. ( it was your own mistake, I am the one who caused the trouble) American style —>

It’s not a problem = Mei guan xi

  • No problem. (everywhere)
  • No worries, mate (Australian)
  • No big deal (American) — >No biggie (American slang)
  • Forget about it! (New Yorker!)
  • It’s chill (relaxed)… (younger generation & West Coast Hippy)
