Last night, I surprised that Ben was back when I opened the door. His hair was shorter than before and his appearance looked much thinner than before,too. Of course, I also changed a hairstyle in the time he left. I told him I had to change my hairstyle to welcome him back. In fact, God knows why I want to change my hair. But Ben still smiked very gentlemanlike at me after heard. Maybe this is what we often call human interaction. Just like you laugh at others and they will laugh at you ,too.

surprised –> surprised to see / hear / learn

appearance = how you look

his appearance looks thinner –> he looks thinner OR his appearance is thinner

change = usually used with 指定东西

I want to change a hairstyle –> I want to change my hairstyle.

before / while / after + DOING

It’s good to laugh with people, it’s bad to laugh at people.
