touch wood = hope things continue to go well
So far I think I’ll be able to reach my target this month. I’m touching wood !
It has been a beautiful weekend, and, touch wood, it’s won’t rain tonight.
implement = carry out = execute a plan 实行
All businessmen will tell you that an idea isn’t worth anything, it’s the execution that makes the difference.
an incentive = a prize that makes you want to work harder 画饼
Salespeople often try to sell the dream to customers.
intervene,出面,介入
To step in a try to make a situation better
interfere 干涉,扰乱
To step in without improving the situation
People often choose not to interfere when they see a row happening.
Interference is just more noise, for example on a TV:
meddle 多管闲事
To step in in something that doesn’t concern you
If you meddle in other people’s business, you might end up in a difficult situation.
My neighbors had a fight yesterday. The woman was shouting, so I intervened and knocked at their door. They said that they didn’t need my help and that I was just interfering with their discussion. I wish I knew what was happening but I don’t meddle in other people’s business.
In China, many people don’t intervene because they are afraid to interfere. That’s funny because I think they still love to meddle in other people’s business.
