ransom– holding someone hostage in return for money or something else

eg. U.S. policy is to not pay kidnappers when they hold someone for ransom.

waterboarding– torture technique where they victim is made to feel like they are drowning

eg. Waterboarding is illegal in the US.

thrive/thriving– growing very easily,improving easily

eg. The new students are thriving. 

eg. My house plants are thriving next to the window.

mellow=relaxed,slow

eg. I had a really mellow day at work.
