One day, I took my son to a playground where there were a lot of children and parents. Suddenly, a little girl’s balloon fell to the ground. My son saw it and he wanted to pick it up and give it back to the girl. Immediately when he touched the balloon, the girl’s mother said “This is mine” and she grabbed the balloon; and I told her “We just want to help”. I felt very disappointed to see adults become more and more indifferent.

They refused to help, neither be helped and they only considers what strangers want to do for them in a negative way. My son looked at me with a look of confusion, which made me felt so sad that if this is what parents show their children, I can’t imagine what this society / our country will look like when the next generation grow up.

This mom was a piece of work. Maybe she didn’t know children don’t only learn from what we tell them. They learn more from what they see every day.

It is empathetic for the little girl if she keep seeing her mother walking over other people and her friendliness will wear off. There are a lot of things we have to teach our children, but one of the most important thing is letting them know how to engage with others properly.
