Grammar

somebody = someone=  affirmative

I know somebody who can help you.

Somebody forgot to close the door yesterday.

nobody = no one = negative (like ‘nothing’ but for people)

When I first came to Shanghai, I knew nobody.

I was in the club, but nobody was there. I was all alone

I don’t know anybody. = I know nobody

I didn’t see anyone = I saw no one.


I don’t know anything = I know nothing

I didn’t see anything = I saw nothing.

I haven’t seen anything special = I have seen nothing special.


Anybody, Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere = not specific, “every”

Anyone can learn foreign languages. You just need to work hard.

If you leave the door open, anybody can come in.

I will help anybody who asks me and I will help them anytime (they want).

I will never help him = I won’t help him anytime.

This attitude won’t get you anywhere. = This attitude will get you nowhere.


Some time = one day

fame = the situation of being well-known and talked about by many people

Many stars suffer from fame – they can’t go anywhere without being recognized.

suffer = feel bad for physical or psychological reasons (from)

My broken arm is making me suffer.

I suffered a lot from other children at school.
