Vocabulary

irrespective of = regardless, no matter what happens
In the West, people are treated the same, irrespective of their origin.
We will go run outside tomorrow, irrespective of whether it rains.
I will buy the new 2017 BMW car, irrespective of how much it costs.

a preposition = 介词, a group of words used before a noun or pronoun to show place, position, method, etc
“In, from, to, out of, on behalf of” are all prepositions.
“Irrespective of” is also a preposition. It is followed by a noun or pronoun.

a conjunction = a word that joins words or phrases
And, or, for, yet, so, but, because” are all conjunctions.
What” is also a conjunction when it means “as much as”

  • He helps me what he can.
  • You either do your work or prepare for a trip to the office.
  • He is not only handsome, but also brilliant.
  • Not only is he handsome, but also he is brilliant.
  • Neither the basketball team nor the football team is doing well.
  • Both the cross country team and the swimming team are doing well.
  • You must decide whether you stay or you go.
  • Just as many Americans love basketball, so many Canadians love ice hockey.
  • The more you practice dribbling, the better you will be at it.
  • Football is as fast as hockey (is, is fast).
  • Football is as much an addiction as it is a sport.
  • No sooner did she learn to ski, than the snow began to thaw.
  • I would rather swim than surf.

a pronoun = something that replaces a noun
“She, his, it, hers, me them” are all pronouns.

an addiction = a hobby, an activity, a habit or anything you can’t stop
I have an addiction to gambling. I play all my money in casinos.
It’s hard to stop smoking when you are addicted.
This video game is very addictive. Once you start, you can’t stop.
The video game KPL is very addictive for children. They get addicted to it.

Irrespective of how weather are, I would be still here –>
Irrespective of how the weather is, I will still be here.
