China’s President Xi Jinping became the most powerful Chinese leader since Mao after the ruling Communist Party of the People’s Republic of China included his ideology in its constitution.
The placement of Xi’s thought of ‘socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era’ among the party’s guidelines came earlier than his predecessors.
China’s Congress voted unanimously to extend the leader’s already formidable political sway. People also amended the constitution to reference the party’s ‘absolute leadership’ over the military.
Difficult words: predecessors (people before someone), unanimously (everyone agrees), formidable (ultimate, large), sway (power), amend (make little changes to something).
