Pace:  rate of movement/ speed of sth

 

Stool:  a chair with no back

Curtain: to cover the windows.

 

Office Vocabulary:

 

Cubicle:  a small area for a desk, separated from others, usually in a big open area. 

Eg.  In the office we usually have our own cubicles.

 

Calendar:  hangs on the wall, shows the months/days.

Eg.  On the calendar we can see our schedule easily.

 

Monitor/ screen:  the part of the computer you look at.

Eg.  Last night there was something wrong with the monitor of my computer so I should ask some computer engineer to repair it.

Meeting room/ board room:  where “the board” meets, or just a meeting room.

Board of executives/directors:  CEO, CFO, COO etc.  The “board” the main leaders of the company.

Chairman (UK) President (US):  the top of the board

Filing cabinet:  drawers set up to put files in.

Eg.  My manager put some important files into the filing cabinet.

Cabin:  a room in a ship/ a small log house in the forest.

Plant (s):  small greenery for inside the house/office etc.

Is it true/ is it real?

 

Fake plants:  plastic plants.

Pull-up/pop-up banner:  banners/signs that roll into their case.  (like in SE office)

Paper shredder:  to rip/cut/shred up documents.

Eg.  After I finished the meeting I ripped the documents with the paper shredder./ I put the documents into the paper shredder.

Shred:  to rip up, tear apart sth.

Eg.  Shredded meat/chicken/pork

Eg.  I shredded the documents with the paper shredder.

Waiting room/ reception area/lobby:  where guests wait, usually has seats.

Clerks/associates:  a person who shares actively in anything as a business, enterprise, or undertaking; partner; colleague; fellow worker

Headquarters:  the main office.

Eg. The headquarters of Old Navy is in Los Angeles?

R & D: research and development, the people/team that comes up with new ideas or keeps on top of fads/trends.

Fads/trends:  something that is popular.

Eg.  In Beijing wearing plants on your head was a trend last summer.

Shareholder:  when a company is publicly owned, the people that own part of the company are called shareholders.  (They hold a share in the company)

Share”: a part of a company you buy on the stock market.

Stock market:  a place where stocks and shares are traded, for publicly owned companies.
