Dinosaur:  a large extinct animal.

Ex:  We had a good time in a Dinosaur theme park.

 

 

Roller coaster:  a large ride, where you sit in a seat with wheels and are strapped in with a seatbelt and ride on a track.

 

Roller:  a person/thing that rolls.  Something that has wheels (not that commonly used)

Coaster:  something that coasts – a hill or a slope that you can ride down on something.  (not that commonly used)

Coast: Noun- next to the sea

Coast: verb – to slow to a stop using momentum.

Ex:  When driving your car, you will coast to the stop line.  – take your foot off the gas, and just let the car roll to a stop.

“the coast is clearâ€:  no danger, no one around, it is safe to continue.

Ex:  The bank robbers waited until the coast was clear.  Then they broke into the safe.


sneeze – when someone makes a loud sound from their nose and mouth “AAAAACCCCHHHOOOOO!!!â€

Scouts Honor:  comes from the boy scouts, means that you are honest and trustworthy.  Telling the truth.

Ex:  He swore he would pass the test by scouts honor.

“fingers crossedâ€/ “cross your fingers!â€:  good luck!  Or asking someone to give you good luck.

Ex:  May:  I hope your doctors appointment goes well.

Harmony:  fingers crossed!  (I am hoping for good luck, and that it will go well).

Ex:  May:  I hope you pass your test!

Harmony:  Cross your fingers! (I’m asking you to wish me luck).

May:  I will! / I’ll cross my fingers and my toes!

Fingers crossed behind your back:  the general idea is that it somehow either protects you from the consequences of lying or absolves you from being held to your word to begin with. In real life, this gesture is mainly used by children, especially since it’s not a reasonable thing for an adult to do.

Cooties:  a made up disease where children think that the other gender has “cooties†and doesn’t want them to touch them.

Ex:  The little girls didn’t want to hold the boys hand because they thought he had cooties.

“well roundedâ€:  to be good at a lot of things, and a functioning adult/ healthy adult.

Ex:  When we grow up we will become a well rounded person.

“pinky swearâ€:  when two people lock their pinky fingers together in order to make a promise.

Secret handshake:  a special handshake between friends that only they know.
