ex:  I would like to have another helping of food.

phrase: a group of words that when put together have a special meaning.

ex:  When you learn a new language you must learn a lot of phrases.

surplus:  remaining stock of something, a large amount of something.  More of something that you would need. 

ex:  During spring festival our family wants to have a surplus of food. 

relic:  an old object, from history.

ex:  In the museum there are many relics. 

ex:  My grandfather is a relic.

trauma:  something sad or scary that happened, and causes you to remember it for the rest of your life. 

ex:  A few years ago I experienced a trauma when my grandfather died. 

ex:  A few years ago I was traumatized when my grandfather died. 

hypothetical:  a situation that might be real or not.  To see how people will react to something.

ex:  I asked someone about a hypothetical situation.

Interact: to communicate or get along with people. 

ex:  When you’re faced with work problems you need to interact with your colleagues. 

ex:  I don’t like to go to parties, because I have a problem interacting with people.

to settle:  to stick with something that is convenient, although it doesn’t make you happy.

ex:  Many years ago I settled with my roommates.
