Portrait:  is a painting/picture of someone’s face.

Front porch:  a porch on the front of the house.

Front steps/ front door

Porch/patio:  an outdoor area for seating or whatever on a house.

Mud room:  some larger houses have a separate area near the back door usually near to the laundry.

Pantry:  storage closet/room for food.

Spare bedroom/guest room:  if you’re lucky you will have an extra bedroom for storage, and usually has a bed or a pull out couch in it.

Pull out couch/ hide – a –bed:  a couch that a mattress pulls out from under the cushions.

Futon:  a couch that turns into a bed just by laying flat.  Usually the cushions are one giant mattress.

Basement Suite:  a type of rental unit, in western countries some owners will separate their house, so that they they can rent the bottom half to tenants.

Powder room/guest bathroom:  a small guest bathroom ** for guests to powder their nose***.  Only includes a toilet and a sink (no bathtub/ no shower)

Study/office/den:  smaller room, no closet.  Usually used for a desk/office space type thing.  Maybe a hobby room.

Attic:  upstairs above the ceiling, and below the roof.  Sometimes used for storage.

Family room:  usually there is a TV and space for the kids to play. Likely in the basement/ downstairs floor.

Living room: (depends on size of house) usually no TV.

Shed:  not a garage, but a separate storage area.

Carport:  a port for a car.  An open area with a roof to protect the car while parked.

Foyer (foi – ey/ foi – er):  lobby of a theatre or hotel/ church/ cinema.  Can also be used for a house or apartment.. not as likely.
