Vocabulary

Roots (n): 1- family origins, or the particular place you come from and the experiences you have had living there.
E.g.: Somehow, I had forgotten my roots in Kansas.

Disabled (adj): 1- not having one or more of the physical or mental abilities that most people have.
E.g.: The accident left him severely disabled.

Resolution (n): 1- an official decision that is made after a group or organization has voted.
E.g.: The United Nations passed (= voted to support) a resolution to increase aid to developing nations.

Entire (adj): 1- whole or complete, with nothing missing.
E.g.: Between them they ate an entire cake.

Popularity (n): 1- the fact that something or someone is liked, enjoyed, or supported by many people.
E.g.: The prime minister’s popularity is falling.

Journey (n): 1- the act of traveling from one place to another, especially in a vehicle.
E.g.: I love going on long journeys.

Metaphor (n): 1- an expression, often found in literature, that describes a person or object by referring to something that is considered to have similar characteristics to that person or object.
E.g.: “The mind is an ocean” and “the city is a jungle” are both metaphors.

Feminism (n): 1- the belief that women should be allowed the same rights, power, and opportunities as men and be treated in the same way, or the set of activities intended to achieve this state. 2- 女权主义
E.g.: She had a lifelong commitment to feminism

Shift (n/v): 1- to change.
E.g.: Society’s attitudes towards women have shifted enormously over the last century.

Come about (v): 1- to happen, or start to happen.
E.g.: How did the problem come about in the first place?

Accomplishment (n): 1- something that is successful, or that is achieved after a lot of work or effort. 2- the finishing of something.
E.g.: Women’s History Month celebrates women’s accomplishments throughout American History.
E.g.: We celebrated the successful accomplishment of our task.

Inspire (v): 1- to make someone feel that they want to do something and can do it. 2- to make someone have a particular strong feeling or reaction. 3- to give someone an idea for a book, film, product, etc.:
E.g.: His confident leadership inspired his followers.
E.g.: She inspires great loyalty among her followers.
E.g.: The design of the car has inspired many imitations.

Dwindle (v): 1- to become smaller in size or amount, or fewer in number; decline; drop; shrink.
E.g.: The community has dwindled to a tenth of its former size in the last two years.

Pioneer (n): 1- a person who is one of the first people to do something.
E.g.: He was one of the pioneers of modern science

Congress (n): 1- 国会
