I asked somebody where is this room – I stopped to ask for directions to this place.

to ask for directions =/= to give directions

E.g. I am terrible at giving directions. I am even worse at following them. So I always end up leaving the house one hour in advance.

stuck = without the ability / option to move

E.g.

My key is stuck in the door and I can’t get in.
My friend is running late; he is stuck in traffic.
